Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) | Art Therapy | Counselling | Psychotherapy in Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire for Adults and Young People

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT Counsellor and Therapist in St Albans - Hertfordshire - Bedfordshire

My name is Neil Henry. I am a fully qualified CBT and art psychotherapist offering one-to-one integrative psychotherapy for adults and young people. My integrative training means that I have studied several therapeutic techniques and use the ones best suited to you. I create a friendly, kind, safe environment to allow you to work through your issues while feeling supported, valued, and heard. You will leave our sessions with greater understanding, your inner strength, and the ability to create the life you deserve.

The question I receive most in my practice is, how can I change my life now? How can I overcome and move past my sorrows and worries? How can I break free from the hold of anxiety and experience happiness and joy in my life again? My answer to these questions is that I have worked with hundreds of clients and helped them find the answers to these exact questions and find their purpose in life. In our sessions, I will guide and mentor you every step of the way and provide tools you can use long after our sessions have ended.

Why see a counsellor or psychotherapist?

In counselling, we will work through the current difficulties that you are experiencing. This is usually short-term and will give you the tools to take forward into your daily life. In psychotherapy, we work much more profoundly and look at the past and unconscious material and how this has shaped us here and now.

The Sessions

Our sessions together are a collaborative treatment based on the relationship that you and I will have. I would ask you to talk about what is going on for you, and I would provide a supportive environment that allows you to speak openly with someone objective, neutral and nonjudgmental. You and I would work together to identify and change the thought and behaviour patterns that keep you from feeling your best. This can involve how childhood patterns of relating affect how you relate to others now. I will work at your pace and support and guide you every step of the way.

Specialist in the treatment of :

  • Anxiety and Panic attacks - managing and overcoming the physical & emotional effects.

  • ADHD - I have many years of experience and training in treatment strategies to help adults and adolescents understand their ADHD and thrive in all areas of life.

  • Depression and Low self-esteem - working with the inner critic and the core beliefs and factors that are underpinning the depression and helping you to understand these and break the cycle and pattern.

  • Anger and Stress Management - I will help you understand the root cause of anger and stress. I am helping you to know how you respond to triggers and tools to regain control.

  • Obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD) and Tics / Tourettes - I have in-depth training & experience in the application of Exposure & response prevention and habit reversal interventions.

  • Abuse / Neglect- expertise in working with children and adult survivors of abuse and neglect.

How i work

My approach is integrative, meaning I draw on various therapeutic modalities, including CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), Gestalt, NLP, Person-centred and Art Therapy. The sessions will challenge you in a supportive way to get to the core of the issues much faster than some more traditional approaches.

My foremost consideration is to adapt my approach to best serve you in gaining greater insight and finding a resolution to the issues or difficulties you bring to therapy. I adjust the core CBT theory to make it accessible and practical in finding a solution to your problem and all areas of your life.

Immediate benefits: Clients report experiencing feeling better and more confident about their future even after their first session. Read testimonials.

CBT is recognised as one of the leading evidence-based talking therapies. It is a model which allows long-lasting and fundamental change across all areas. You will learn how to change your unhelpful feelings and behaviours by exploring your thinking about past, present or future life events.

Something different - many clients come to me after trying different approaches that just haven't worked out for them.
